Memphis is both my husband's and my hometown. We now live in Georgia and try to visit as often as we can. This past Thanksgiving I decided to do something different. Instead of only visiting family and friends, I decided to tour Memphis as if I were a tourist. Oddly enough, I've spent most of my adult life in Memphis but have never ever been to Graceland. I was shocked when I found out that my husband and most of my friends have also never visited the home of Elvis Presley. Even my own father admitted to never have written his named on the famed Graceland wall that surrounds the Presley Mansion. Early Thanksgiving morning I decided to take my daughters out to the mansion to write our names on the wall. This was perfect for Londonrose since she had just learned to write her name in cursive. Graceland averages over 600,000 visitors each year. Thank goodness it was only us and one other family there when we arrived at 7:30 Thanksgiving morning. It was a challenge trying to find space but it was fun reading the message of the many Elvis fans from around the world. We did not tour the mansion nor the plane nor the famed pink cadillac display. We instead signed our names on the wall, checked that task off out "to-do" list and headed downtown to see the world famous duck march in the Peabody Hotel. We would have to come back to Graceland to finish our tour when its a bit warmer and when we have more time.
