BIG NEWS!! Londonrose just finished a collab with some awesome creators at Koji and released her very own game called Match-A-Rose! Creating a game like this for yourself is pretty easy using the Koji platform. What's even better is it doesn't require any coding experience, just a little creativity. What is Koji?Koji is a new platform which makes it easy to create Web Games and other interactive content. The games created can be shared via social channels, embedded in blogs, and loaded instantly when people click on the link. The whole process is fairly quick! Usually less than 15 minutes, you can have your game created without even touching code (although all of the JavaScript code is available to those who want to edit it). How does Koji work? It's pretty much a four step process: find an existing game on the platform, click the "Remix" button directly below the game, edit the game to your liking, and finally publish the game. 1. Find and existing game on WithKoji.com There are thousands of games to choose from on the platform. From there, you can see what's trending. 2. Click on the "Remix" button directly below the game 3. Customize the game From here you can change colors, images, sounds, game rules, and all kinds of other things. 4. Publish & Share it with the world Once you finish customizing, click on "Publish now". Fill in some info, add a thumbnail image/gif. You will get a link to the live game on WithKoji.com You can share your game anywhere on the web (Facbook, Twitter, Pinterest, Tumblr, LinkedIn, Reddit, Email, website embed, etc.) Below is a video tutorial by Koji for you visual learners, like me, to help you learn how to create your own game in minutes.

Ray Charles had Georgia on his mind and I totally see why. One of the best parts about living in Georgia is there are plenty of places where you can enjoy nature. There are loads of beaches, waterfalls, and even mountains. With nearly 50 state parks it shouldn’t be any surprise that this natural playground also has some of the best sunflower fields around.
Thank goodness I ran into Katy of Katy Plavcan Photography! She happened to be in the middle of a session but didn't hesitate to ask if I wanted pics of my own. Yes, yes, a thousand times YESSSSSSS, I wanted to scream. I settled on a polite , sure, instead. Katy was UH-MAY-ZING!!!! I am so happy with the way she captured Londonrose and me. If you're in the Atlanta area and need a photographer, you definitely need to check out Katy Plavcan Photography You'll be happy you did.
Which pic is your fave? xoxoxo, Meckaela
We have been counting down for weeks now and the time has finally come! Tomorrow is Londonrose's Ninja Turtle skate party to celebrate her turning 5. She is completely into all things Ninja Turtle related and is absolutely refusing to wear anything pink or resembling a dress to her party tomorrow (give me a second to dry my eyes). I'm sharing with you one of my favorite dresses from Alfie.
It's that time of year again where everyone is excited about graduation: college, high school, 8th grade, 5th grade, kindergarten, and even Pre-k graduation. Truthfully, most of these are actually "promotions" to the next grade, but what's the fun in that? Let's face it, it's waaaay cooler to say graduation, right? This year, Londonrose graduated from Pre-K and today I would like to share with you clips from that event and photos from her graduation photo shoot. Valentine's Day is usually thought of a day for lovers but this year I decided to include Londonrose in on the fun. Since she's our only child at home and it's hard finding a sitter on days like today, it seemed like the most practical thing to do. I wanted her to feel special when she woke up this morning so I devised a plan to do just that! She slept with Derrick and I last night so it was easy to set up her bedside table as if she were in a little cafe. On the table I place a vase of silk flowers, a cupcake, milk a hand painted Valentine card by Samantha LeDuc of Sunday Rest Studio. I know you're probably saying a cupcake isn't healthy for a kid to eat for breakfast. You're right! It's not but today's Valentines Day so its totally ok, right? We read her card together while she sat hapily at her table. After breakfast, she quickly dressed for school. The handpainted shirt is from Ayanna's Art and Fashion and her floral bottoms can be found and the British boutique, Roo's Here's pics from Londonrose's Valentines shoot with Jaye Dreams Photography
One of the things I love most about have a little girl is dressing her. OMG!!!!!! It's one of the best parts to my morning. Well, it use to be until Londonrose decided that she would start picking out her own clothes. Apparently, there's this little boy in her class that she likes. Sooooooo, I get comments from her like, " Tristan likes basketball so I'm going to wear my jersey." and "Tristan likes my pony tails so momma, please put my hair in one ponytail for school." I just can't with this four year old. So, I put together a few pics from one of my favorite ensembles Londonrose put together. Shop the look by clicking on the photos below. However, Rose's skirt was made by me by altering one of Derrick's old tee shirt but I have found for you similar option. This exact jacket is no longer available at Target, but I have found one that is very similar to help you complete the look. I have noooooo idea where I got this scarf. I've had it for over a decade, long before Londonrose was even born. Want to see Talladega Band's performance in the inaugural parade?Click here to see more videos from Killa Kev Productions.
Talladega College is to be the only HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) to accept the invitation to march in the parade. Many Americans took to social media to voice their opinions. One family went as far as to return their parents Honorary Doctoral degrees to the school because of their disappointment in Talladega's decision to march in the parade. My daughter and her band mates were called names and made to feel, pretty much, less than human. I must admit, I am so proud of Alyanna for the way that she handled the situation. It's hard to take opposition full on and not buckle under the pressure. My husband and I met in band class over 20 years ago. I played the Tenor Saxophone and he played the Trumpet. Of all our children, Alyanna was the only one that stayed in band and ultimately earned a scholarship to school through her music skills. Derrick and I are band geeks at heart and absolutely LOVE watching her march with her band mates. The band started a Go Fund Me page to raise the 75K dollars they needed to cover the trip. Within a few short days, they had raised over 600k!! Over 11,000 people donated to help send them to the Inaugural Parade. (Photo Source: Go Fund Me/ Sama Mondeh) The band left earlier today, heading for our nation's capitol. I came across this post on Instagram from This Is Fusion that really got me thinking....... The Lorraine Motel in Memphis is where Martin Luther King Jr. was shot and is the current site of the National Civil Rights Museum. King had traveled to Memphis to lend his support to a sanitation workers strike. He gave his last speech at a Memphis church and he spoke these foreshadowing words: "Well, I don't know what will happen now. We've got some difficult days ahead. But it really doesn't matter with me now, because I've been to the mountaintop. And I don't mind. Like anybody, I would like to live - a long life; longevity has its place. But I'm not concerned about that now. I just want to do God's will. And He's allowed me to go up to the mountain. And I've looked over. And I've seen the Promised Land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight, that we, as a people, will get to the Promised Land. So I'm happy, tonight. I'm not worried about anything. I'm not fearing any man." The next day he was assassinated. Today we honor his legacy.
Negro Motorist Green Book). This book was somewhat like the Yellow Pages in that is listed hotels, restaurant's, gas stations, etc. that were friendly to African Americans during the Jim Crow era. Memphis has a rich music history and do to it's close proximity to Stax Records and Beale Street, many musicians and song writers would also stay there. Did you know that the motel had both white and black guests that stayed there? Negro League baseball players, the Harlem Globetrotters, Ray Charles, Otis Redding, Ethel Waters, Cab Calloway, Count Basie, Aretha Franklin, Louis Armstrong, Sarah Vaughn, Nat King Cole, and Isaac Hayes were all guests of the famous hotel. By the way, Isaac Hayes grandson was one of my Spanish 2 students during the 2012-2013 school year! Two years before that, I taught Al Green's grandson too. ended up coming up to Memphis. He had actually visited Memphis a few times before he was assassinated on April 4, 1968. I called my father today to ask him about his experience during the Sanitation Strikes. He was just a boy at that time. He was only 13 and my grandmother, Loraine, had forbade him to go but he went anyway. He told me that he went to two of them. Of course. He recalls the crowds holding I Am A Man signs while marching down the streets. His voice filled with emotion as he began to tell me about the police sicking the dogs on them and spraying them with water hoses. He had to run and dodge his way home because the police been instructed to pick up any black they saw leaving that area of town. He recalls hiding in the grass while watching other's nearby being beat with billy clubs held by angry police officers. My dad ran track for the U.S. Airforce, winning gold in the 1983 Mediterranean Conferenece representing the Zaragoza, Spain Airforce base. I remember him being pretty fast as an adult, so I can only imagine how fast he was running as a boy!
Below are a few of our favorite photos from Beale St. and Mr. Lovelace's I Am A Man mural.
Kimberly suggested a few YouTube videos to help teach me how to tie my wraps. An hour later, Londonrose and I were prancing through the house in our own private fashion show, ha ha ha. We had such an AMAZING time. Here are a few of our favorite looks. Here is one of the tutorials I watched. It's EXTREMELY informative and easy to follow. We would love to hear from you.
